The Warehouse Tower, adjacent to St. Michael Tower, was built in 1691 according to the Treasurer of Romagna Michelangelo Maffei's will, to secure the storage of the salt produced in the saltpans.  

  

The Warehouse Dock was built on the opposite side of the channel i1712. It was intended to store the salt that had undergone a first cleaning and drying in the Warehouse Tower, and for the subsequent work of weighing and portioning in bags for sale.

St. Michael Tower had as its main function to defend the city and its salt.
